Principles of Industrial Hygiene

The principles of industrial hygiene training course covers key aspects of industrial hygiene and is appropriate to safety, health and/or environmental professional or manager who has industrial hygiene responsibilities but limited training or experience in this area.

This course helps build confidence and skills needed to understand the concepts of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling industrial hygiene hazards that your organization may face.

Participants will learn:

  • To understand industrial hygiene terminology, principles and practices by examining four key processes in an effective industrial hygiene effort — anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control.
  • To recognize potential and existing chemical, physical, ergonomic, and biological hazards.
  • To employ general engineering and administrative controls.
  • To conduct an industrial hygiene walk-through survey.
  • How to distinguish chemical, physical, ergonomic and biological hazards
  • How to conduct an industrial hygiene needs analysis
  • When to use a qualified/certified industrial hygienist
  • Basic anatomy and physiology associated with routes of entry and toxicology
  • Hazard evaluation techniques
  • Emerging trends in combustible dust, hexavalent chromium, flavorings-related lung disease, bioterrorism, nanotechnology and pandemic influenza
  • General engineering and administrative controls
  • How to use essential monitoring equipment

After successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded with an ARM – Associates Certificate of Completion.
