Fundamentals of Hazard Operability (HAZOP) and Risk Assessment (RA)

The 5-day Fundamentals of Hazard Operability (HAZOP) and Risk Assessment (RA) course focuses on the key elements of HAZOP management and comprehensively assessing an organization’s operational risks and hazards. The course focuses on key HAZOP and risk assessment concepts, techniques and methods. The course will teach students how to conduct and/or participate in either a HAZOP or Risk Assessment study.

Participants will:

  • Become familiar with the concepts of a HAZOP study
  • Understand the principles and methodology behind a HAZOP study
  • Understand the requirements of management, preparation, planning, HAZOP team, documentation, as well the review of HAZOP study
  • Understand the methodology in conducting a process hazard review    
  • Explore various types of risk assessments
  • Understand the difference between “hazard” and “risk”
  • Understand the various methods of conducting the risk assessment process
  • Feel confident in conducting and/or participating in a HAZOP study and risk assessments within the workplace
  • Employ general engineering and administrative controls to each process.

After successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded with an ARM – Associates Certificate of Completion.
